Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has publicly criticized the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, accusing it of abandoning key economic and education promises made to Kenyans during the 2022 General Election campaign.
In a blunt interview televised on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Nyoro stated that his disappointment with UDA stems from the same unresolved issues regarding the economy, public spending priorities, and leadership accountability.
According to Nyoro, the party had committed to slowing down public borrowing to protect the country’s long-term economic stability, a promise he says has since been broken.
Economist Nyoro cautioned that lasting development cannot rely on heavy borrowing, warning that present fiscal choices could saddle future generations with debt while undermining the country’s economic stability.
Aside from the economy, the outspoken MP further faulted the government for failing to give education the priority it deserves as promised, sayingfunding for the sector has fallen short of expectationsdespite its central role in national development.
Presented as a pillar of transformation during the campaign, the legislator claimed that the reality on the ground does not match what Kenyans were promised.
Additionally, Nyoro claimed that the increasing intolerance for dissenting voices was another factor influencing his split with the ruling party. He added that rather than viewing the dissenting voices as a threat, the open debate they would bring would contribute positively to good governance and sound policy-making.
Denting the 'Singapore dream', he went on to state that countries admired for their progress are often judged primarily on economic performance, not political slogans or public relations campaigns.
Nyoro cautioned that prioritising optics and rhetoric over real economic outcomes would be futile, noting that hard economic data ultimately tells its own story.
Despite his criticism, Nyoro insisted he still believes in the ideas UDA campaigned on, saying they remain the right path for Kenya regardless of who holds power.
Nyoro's recent critique of the performance of the Kenya Kwanza administration comes days after the Kiharu MP launched theKiharu Masomo Bora 2026 Edition, a revolutionary education programme, where students pay only Ksh500 per term.
Under the programme, learners will be provided with a daily lunch throughout the week, and on every last Friday of the month, students will enjoy chapati for lunch, ensuring no child goes hungry during school hours.
