Eliud Owalo Announces Bid for Presidency in 2027 General Election

Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency, Eliud Owalo, has declared that he will contest the presidency in the 2027 General Election.

Owalo announced on Sunday during the 106th commemoration of the death of his grandfather, Prophet Johanna Owalo, the founder of the Nomiya Church, held at the church’s headquarters in Oboch, Kisumu County.

“Come 2027, I will submit myself as a candidate for the presidency of the Republic of Kenya,” Owalo said, citing his record as a performer, a results-oriented leader, and a risk-taker.

The declaration marks a significant political shift for Owalo, who has previously worked closely with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Musalia Mudavadi, and iscurrently serving under President William Ruto.

He said his decision reflects a move away from backing individual political figures to focusing on delivering development outcomes for Kenyans.

Speaking after the church service, Owalo urged residents of the Nyanza region to embrace what he termed a politics of action rather than rhetoric and encouraged the registration of more political parties to bring multiparty democracy in the Nyanza region.

In his address, Owalo emphasized that defeating poverty required a development agenda that prioritizes major infrastructure projects, including dams, rails, roads, and airports, over rallies and slogans.

The Chief of Staff touched on the expansion of water systems such as the Koru–Soin dams to address flooding, improve water access, support power generation, and enhance food security.

Moreover, Owalo called for theupgrading of Kisumu International Airport to support cargo handlingand enable the direct export of fish, agricultural produce, and other goods to foreign markets.

He further proposed the establishment of factories for processing livestock products, hides and skins, potatoes, avocado, tea, coffee, and soapstone to promote value addition in Nyanza.

Additionally, Owalo continued to advocate for the revival of the sugar, rice, and cotton industries that have been out of commission for years.

The annual commemoration of Prophet Johanna Owalo’s death provided a symbolic platform for Owalo to link his personal legacy with his national ambitions and vision for development-driven leadership.
