Blogger Arrested for Attempted Extortion of KWS Director General

A blogger who once led Bunge la Mwananchi has been apprehended and now faces serious charges after allegedly trying to extort money from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).

The blogger was detained at the KWS headquarters in Nairobi in a dramatic fashion, before being presented at the JKIA Law Courts.

The former President of Bunge la Mwananchi allegedly walked into the wildlife agency's offices with court documents bearing his name as petitioner.

Investigators say he wasn't seeking justice, he was allegedly using the legal papers as a weapon for intimidation and blackmail.

KWS says preliminary findings suggest the blogger targeted the Office of the Director General with threats of adverse publicity and legal action.

The agency reported the matter to police, leading to the detention and arraignment of the formerBunge la Wananchipresident before Magistrate Njeri Thuku.

"Such conduct, if established, is contrary to the law and offends the national values and principles of governance," KWS stated in a press release.

The wildlife conservation body expressed concern about what it describes asa coordinated network of individuals targeting both public and private sector officers.

These alleged extortionists reportedly use lawsuits, intimidation, and orchestrated public campaigns to unlawfully obtain financial benefits from their targets.

KWS reminded Kenyans that while the Constitution guarantees access to justice, this right must be exercised in good faith.

"The use of court processes for ulterior purposes such as blackmail constitutes an abuse of judicial process," the Service warned.

The agency pledged it would not yield to intimidation or unlawful pressure while fulfilling its constitutional mandate under the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act.

The case now awaits further direction from the court as authorities continue handling the matter within legal confines.
